Volunteer Fire Department Hose Fittings
Quick-Connect Hose Fittings Built for Volunteer Fire Departments
Hy-Conn was invented by a volunteer firefighter who understood exactly what volunteer departments face — limited infrastructure, variable water supply, and the constant pressure of doing more with less. Our patented quick-connect hose fittings help volunteer departments establish water supply lines faster, reduce physical demands on personnel, and operate more efficiently in the rural environments where they are needed most.
Where Hy-Conn Came From
In 1999, Jeff Stroope was responding to fires in rural Arkansas as a volunteer firefighter. Hydrants were scarce. Water had to be shuttled using tanker trucks, and the time lost establishing water supply lines at each connection point was time that fire had to grow unchallenged. The standard connection tools firefighters were using — threaded couplings, spanners, and adapters — were slow, cumbersome, and hadn’t meaningfully changed in decades.
Jeff was also a CNC machinist with a background in mechanical design. He applied that background to the connection problem and spent years developing a system that could lock a hose onto a hydrant in seconds without tools, without threading, and without the physical effort that standard couplings demand. The result was Hy-Conn — a product built specifically for the conditions volunteer departments operate in every day.
That origin is not incidental to how the product performs. Hy-Conn was not designed for an ideal fire scenario at a fully hydrant-covered urban intersection. It was designed for rural Arkansas, where tanker shuttles are the primary water supply, personnel have limited time to train, and every second between arrival and water on the fire matters.
What Hy-Conn Does for Volunteer Departments
The time between apparatus arrival and water on the fire is determined in part by how fast water supply lines can be established. Hy-Conn reduces the connection time at every point in the supply chain — hydrant to engine, tanker to portable tank, supply line to attack line — compressing the total time from arrival to flowing water across every incident type.
Tool-free connection means personnel can establish and break down water supply lines without spanners, without grip strength requirements, and without the physical exertion that standard threaded couplings demand. In long-duration incidents, that reduction in physical load compounds across every connection and disconnection the crew makes throughout the operation.
The Hy-Conn connection process is push-and-lock. There is no threading technique to learn, no torque to develop through experience, and no spanner handling to train. Any personnel member who can identify the correct fitting can make the connection correctly on the first attempt — a meaningful advantage for departments with rotating volunteer rosters and limited training time.
Hy-Conn’s broad thread compatibility means fittings can be specified to match the hydrant threads in a department’s response territory while remaining operable across mutual aid scenarios with neighboring departments. Custom thread options allow departments with legacy or non-standard hydrant infrastructure to get the quick-connect performance Hy-Conn delivers without modifying existing supply points.
American Manufacturing, Direct Support
Every Hy-Conn fitting is machined, assembled, and tested in-house at our Arkansas facility. When volunteer departments contact us with questions about fitting selection, thread compatibility, or custom configurations, they reach our team directly — not a call center. We work with departments of every size, from single-station rural volunteer companies to multi-station departments covering large rural territories.
Hy-Conn is available through direct order and through our network of 45+ authorized distributors. Departments working through existing fire equipment suppliers can ask their supplier about Hy-Conn availability or contact us directly to be connected with a distributor serving their area.
